<br />be a,beut 26,900 and is largely c.oncentrated in Trinidad and vicinity.
<br />The greater perti.on .01 the watershed is very sparsely settled. Trini-
<br />dad, with 13;223 inhabitants, is the largest tewn in the basin. Las
<br />Animas, .on the watershed divide near Arkansas River, has a P.oPula-
<br />ti.on .of 3,232. A c.omparis.on .of the P.oPulati.on figures fr.om the
<br />'(jnited States census f.or, 1920, 1930, and 1940 indicates that f.or the
<br />entire watershed there was an 8 percent decrease fr.om 1920 t.o 1930
<br />and a 9 percent decrease fr.om 1930 te 1940. 'The pepulati.on .of
<br />Txinidad has increased in the 2 decades fr.om 10,906 in 1920 t.o 13,223
