4-05 Irrigation Canal Siphon and Waste Turn Out - Station 35+20. The irri-
gation canal siphon transports irrigation water under the improved Wolf
Creek channel. The siphon inlet is equipped with a removable trash rack
and a waste turn out. The waste turn out is normally closed with a remov-
able board assembly. Closure of the siphon requires the use of sandbags or
other means to plug the entrance.

a. Operation. The amount of flow in the siphon as well as the oper-
ation of the waste turn out is controlled by the canal owner. Should trash,
drift and debris build up on the inlet trash rack potentially affect the
efficient functioning of the flood protection works, the superintendent shall
notify the canal owner to take appropriate measures to remove the build-up.

b. Maintenance. The superintendent shall periodically inspect the
siphon inlet and outlet structures to insure that the headwall, concrete
apron, riprap protection, trash rack and waste way board assembly are in
serviceable condition. Any damaged or unserviceable parts shall be replaced
without delay.

-11-
