<br />DELTA. <br /> <br />COUNTY <br /> <br />The Uncompahgre River, swollen <br />with snowmelt floodwaters, <br />threatened railroad tracks, a <br />county road, and the developed <br />area near County Road G. Over <br />$33,000 was spent constructing <br />a levee to protect the sites. <br />Near Paonia, and the confluence <br />of the North Fork of Gunnison <br />River and Le Roux Creek, Delta <br />County work crews and <br />volunteers placed rip-rap and <br />sandbags to protect adjacent <br />improved lands. At County Road <br />1700 bridge over the <br />Uncompahgre River, damage to <br />bridge piers and wingwalls <br />occurred from the force of the <br />floodwaters. At County Road <br />1600 bridge over the <br />Uncompahgre River, damage to <br />bridge abutments, wingwalls, <br />and piers occurred. Along <br />Smith Road near County Road <br />3850, a washout and slide <br />closed the road for extended <br />periods. The Black Bridge over <br />the North Fork of the Gunnison <br />suffered damage to both <br />wingwalls. Along County Road <br />3300 near State Highway 92, Le <br />Roux Creek, swollen with <br />floodwaters, washed out a large <br />cuI vert and portions of <br />roadway. <br /> <br />citv of Delta Over 6,000 <br />sandbags were installed by city <br />crews and volunteers protecting <br />homes along Vine Street from <br />floodwaters of the Uncompahgre <br />River. The 5th street Bridge <br />over the Uncompahgre River was <br />closed during the flood due to <br />a damaged abutment. The City's <br />waste water lagoons adjacent to <br />the Uncompahgre River were <br />threatened, however, city crews <br /> <br />placed fill <br />successfully <br />facility. <br /> <br />and rip-rap <br />protecting the <br /> <br />A sewage intercepter line to <br />the sewage treatment plant was <br />destroyed. The new intercepter <br />line has been encased in <br />concrete and protected with <br />rip-rap at a cost of over <br />$135,000. Over 450 ft. of <br />twelve inch water line crossing <br />the Gunnison River was washed <br />away by floodwaters. The <br />replacement water line was <br />installed on the downstream <br />underside of the Fifth Street <br />Bridge to prevent future <br />damages. <br /> <br />Delta-Montrose Electric <br />Association - Landslides near <br />the Cimmaron Substation <br />inundated transmission poles, <br />laying the poles over, <br />disrupting service, and <br />creating a public safety <br />hazard.' Over 9,000 ft. of 3 <br />phase transmission line was <br />destroyed at this si te . <br />Electric officials relocated <br />the new line and transmission <br />poles out of the landslide <br />area. Along the Gunnison River <br />numerous transmission poles <br />were undermined by the high <br />floodwaters of the river. Near <br />Delta, the main service <br />crossing the Gunnison River was <br />destroyed. In every case, the <br />replacement lines and poles <br />have been relocated to prevent <br />future damage from landslides <br />and flooding. <br /> <br />Hotchkiss Sanitation District <br />Floodwaters in the North Fork <br />of the Gunnison River eroded <br />the stream banks near the <br />District's waste water <br />treatment plant.
