It is termed a
"front range" county because of its location in a population
concentration and growth corridor which extends along the eastern
edge of the Rocky Mountains. Pueblo County begins approximately 90
miles south of Denver and 20 miles south of Colorado Springs.
Pueblo County contains three physiographic regions (from west to
east): mountains, foothi 11s, and plains. Western Pueblo County is
in the Wet Mountain range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Greenhorn Peak, rising to an elevation of 12,349 feet, is the
highest feature in the county. The foothills represent a transition
area between the mountains and the plains, and contain the Town of
Rye and the unincorporated communities of Beulah and Colorado City.
3
