The area of Routt County is <br />2310 8quare miles. The area in acres is <br />1,417,760, of which 651,484 acres, or 46 per <br />cent of the whole, is patented and privately <br />owned. There i8 yet much government and <br />state land open for settlement. <br /> <br />The population of Routt County is ap- <br />proximately 9,500. <br /> <br />Routt County is the banner dry fanning <br />county in the state. <br /> <br />We have abundance of water for irriga- <br />tion. <br /> <br />We have large areas of timber land, both <br />privately and government owned. <br /> <br />We have vast resources of coal, iron, cop- <br />per and other minerals awaiting develop- <br />ment. <br /> <br />We have one producing oil field, and ex- <br />ploration being made in others. <br /> <br />Cattle and sheep raising are extensively <br />followed. <br /> <br />The dail'y industry is in its infancy, but <br />flourishing. <br /> <br />North U. S. 40 nms thru the county. <br /> <br />Routt County, Colorado, the land of op- <br />portunity. <br /> <br />As many complaints are made to this offlce- <br />about the amount of taxes assessed upon prop- <br />erty, the public is s.dvised that this office- 18 in <br />no manner responsible for the tax levies im- <br />posed upon the property. The taxes levied for <br />State purposes is the action of the State Boa.rd <br />of Equallzation. Taxes for County purposes are <br />levied by the Board of County Comm1ss1oners; <br />School taxes by School Boards, and Town taxes <br />by the respective Town Boards, and when cer- <br />tified into this office are merely computed, ex-.- <br />tended and deUvered to the Connty Treasurer <br />with authority to collect. <br /> <br />The duties of the Assessor's office are as fol- <br />lows: To get as nearly as possible aU property <br />in the Oounty on the tax roll, at a valuatlon aa <br />near the actual cash value as can be deter- <br />mined.
