5.4

Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

.

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the Town of Carbondale is, for
insurance purposes, the principal product of the Flood Insurance
Study. This map contains the official delineation of flood insurance
zones and base flood elevations. Base flood elevation lines show
the locations of the expected whole-foot water-surface elevation
of the base (lOO-year) flood. The base flood elevations and zone
numbers are used by insurance agents, in conjunction with structure
elevations and characteristics, to assign actuarial insurance
rates to structures and contents insured under the NFIP.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

This study was prepared from data used for the Flood Insurance Study
currently being prepared for the unincorporated areas of Garfield COunty,
COlorado (Reference 1), and is in agreement with that study.

In 1979, the Sacramento District of the COE prepared a hydrOlogy report
covering the Crystal River (Reference 3). That report developed
recurrence intervals for peak flows in the Crystal River basin. The
discharge values from the 1979 report have been adopted for the hydrOlogic
analysis in this study.

A Flood Hazard Boundary Map (FHBM) has been published for the Town of
Carbondale (Reference 8). This study represents a more recent and
comprehensive analysis and, therefore, supersedes the FHBM.

7.0 LOCATION OF DATA

Information concerning the pertinent data used in the preparation of
this study can be obtained by contacting the Natural and Technological
Hazards Division, FEMA, Building 710, Denver Federal Center, Lakewood,
COlorado 80225.

8.0 BIBLIOGRAPHY AND REFERENCES

1.
