Proposed improvements will prevent all Pawnee Creek overflows up to the 100-year from entering the
City of Sterling. Thus all damage for the lesser flows is prevented for Reaches I and D. With the
improvements, floods less than the 25-year flow will follow the historic Pawnee Creek drainageway
and will not create an overflow condition. Flows in excess of the 25-year flood will follow the
overflow, and will leave residual damage along the farmland. Reach IV includes only the potential
damage that results from the lack of capacity under the railroad embankment in this area. (Upstream
crop damage would occur with and without the proposed improvements). Even with the proposed
railroad culvert in this area, residual damage in the Town of Atwood area would occur. A summary of
damage, both before and after the proposed improvemcnts is presented in Table 17.
