This report was prepared to guide local ,)ffici<lls in planning the
use and regulati.)n of the floodplain areas such that fl,)od
hazards and future flood damages are minimized. It includus
information .)n historical floods, existing factors which
influence the flood ha<:at"d, and the nature and extent of probahle
future floods.
The report data includes flooded area maps del inflAting the
100-year flood boundary, flood profiles and typical floodplain
cross ,~ections showing the Wllter surface elevations for the 10-,
50~, 100- and 500~year frequency floods at selected reference
points.

TherefDre, upon official approva.l of this repDrt by the Colorado
Water Conservation Board, the areas described as being inundated
by the 100-year flood (Intermediate Regional Flood) can he
designated as flood hazard areas and their use regulated
accordingly by the loca.l agencies. The terms "Int..rrnediate
Regional Flood", "lOO-year flood", and "one~percent flood" Can be
used interchangeahly as they arc all defined by the same type of
flood ev..nt (see Glossary). However, to aVDid confusion, the
term "lOO-year flvod" will be used exclusively throughvut this
report.
