CHAPTER V

DATA RESUl~ TS

GENERAL

The results and analysis are summariz,~d in Tables 5-1 through 5-5.

SUMMARY

The one hundred thirty fivt, community responses to the Community Inventory Questiollilaire and the
twenty four organizational n~sponses clearly indicate the Colorado Water Conservation Board is focusing
on an area of considerable interest and need, The conununity profile portion of the responses reflects a
keen interest by local residents to beneI' understand floodplains, stream corridor and watershed
stewardship, through technical assistance and to cnfon:e currerit floodplain regulation to preserve the
unique anributes of this pOl'tion of the watershed without placing human life in danger during flooding
events, Management of existing development in floodplains requires additional efforts, including (I)
identification of floodplain development and determining if it should remain or be relocated bast,d on the
history and frequency of being flooded, (2) improving available floodplain data including mapping of
previously unmapped areas and updati:lg existing maps, Survey respondents also identified the need to
construct single and multi-purpose projects which would t:nhance and optimize floodplains for uses which
can accommodate flooding rt'gularly. Ii: is possible, in practicing stewardship of land and water resources,
to incorporate multi-purpose projects which will convey flood flows when necessary, but ..Iso enhance
community open space needs and environmental appreciation,

V-I

97-060.001
