County subdivision regulations require the con- <br />struction of" detention ponds designed to assure that development <br />of" the subdivision will not increase runof"f". <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service has prepared a f"lood plain <br />inf"ormation repprt on the f"lood plain of" Boxelder Creek. Based <br />on that report, the Larimer County Board of" Commissioners requested <br />and the Colorado Water Conservation Board approved designation of" <br />the f"lood plain of" Boxelder Creek that still would be subject <br />to f"looding by runof"f" f"rom a lOO-year storm af'ter completion of" <br />improvell1ents proposed in the watershed ."ork plan as a f"lood prone area. <br />This will permit zoning and regulation of" the f"lood plain area near <br />the mouth of" the creek where residential and commercial development <br />has taken place and where channel improvement was considered but not <br />included in the work plan. <br /> <br />EMERGENCY EVACUATION <br /> <br />The Denver.of"f"ice of" the National Weather Service provides <br /> <br /> <br />general f"lash-f"lood warnings, f"or a region which includes the Cache <br /> <br /> <br />1a Pou<ire River basin. These warnings are issued whenever rainf"all <br /> <br /> <br />reparts or radar indicate that heavy rains capable of" producing high <br /> <br /> <br />runof"f" have occurred or are occurring. Special f"orecasts of" severe <br /> <br /> <br />storms or rapiq snowmelt are made when warranted. These warnings, <br /> <br /> <br />.to the extent that. they are heeded, may. be of" signif"icance in <br /> <br /> <br />reducing f"lood damages. <br /> <br />18 <br />
