Floodin!!: Problems and Floodin!!: History Flooding along the Eagle River and Gypsum Creek, in Gypsum, usually occurs from May through September. Floodwaters can occur from snowmelt, intense rainstorms and cloudbursts, or rainstorms augmented by snowmelt. Past floods in Gypsum, on both the Eagle River and Gypsum Creek, occurred in August and September 1963 and in June 1965, Both of these floods caused minor damage. There are no recorded discharges available for these floods. (Note: Information from 1983 Flood Insurance Study) Previous Studies A Flood Insurance Study was conducted for the Town of Gypsum, Eagle County, Colorado and is dated March 16, 1983, A LOMR was issued on October 5, 1999 which changed some of the profile information in the FIS for Eagle River. Two other studies on the Eagle River have been researched, The first is a floodplain study done by J. F. Sato and Associates with a revision date of June 23, 1999. It is anticipated that these drawings are the precursor to the already approved LOMR. The second is two maps of a plan view of Gypsum Creek marked "preliminary" and dated November 3, 2000. In the comer is a note that reads "This map has not been approved by the Federal Emergency Manag[e]ment Agency (FEMA) and may be revised based on the FEMA review." It is not consistent with the FIS information provided 17 years earlier. Community Response to the CWCB Desi!!:nation and Approval Process A letter from the CWCB was transmitted to the Town of Gypsum regarding the Board's proposed action for designation and approval of the Town's FIRMs. CWCB has not yet received a letter back from the Town requesting designation. Jeff Shroll, the manager of the Town of Gypsum, does not anticipate the community responding, either negatively or positively. 6
