peak discharges. Discharqes from station values at Ignacio were
adopted for the study of Ignacio.

For Bayfield, flows contributed from the drainage area downstream

from the Reservoir were computed assuming the flow is proportional

to the drainage area to the power as obtained from the regression

for the Upper San Juan River Basin. The flow thus obtained plus

the discharge released from the reservoir yielded the peak dis-

charge for each selected recurrence interval. The frequency-

discharge curves for Ignacio, Bayfield and Vallecito Reservoir

operations are shown in Figure 11.

Peak discharges used in hydraulic computations at various locations
are listed in Table 5.

Comments

Hydrologic data presented in this report are based on historical

data which include sediment and debris normally associated with

flood flows. Unusual flood situations, such as mud flows and large

amounts of debris that would increase the severity of floods, cannot

be identified without extensive studies. A flood of this nature

will probably exceed flood magnitudes presented in this report.

Flood flows in excess of lOO-year recurrence interval presented in

this report are our best estimate according to information avail-

able. If any agency or individual wishes to use the data developed

for this report, it would be beneficial if the agency or individual

contacted the Colorado Water Conservation Board to discuss the data

limitations.

-20-
