I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

The flood profiles and floodplain delineation presented in this report are based
on existing floodplain and channel conditions, with future basin conditions
incorporated in the study hydrology. It is important to note that flood elevations
and the corresponding floodplain are often altered by road and bridge construc-
tion, floodplain development, flood control improvements, or natural processes.
Prior to utilization of this report for planning or design purposes, the user
is advised to contact the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, the City of
Golden, or Jefferson County to determine if the information in this report has
been amended.

- STUDY AREA AND BASIN DESCRIPTION -

Tucker Gulch and Kenneys Run are left and right bank tributaries of Clear Creek
with their confluences located approximately 350 feet and 600 feet downstream
of the Ford Street bridge over Clear Creek. Tucker Gulch, the left bank tributary,
has its headwaters in the foothills of Golden Gate Canyon at elevations exceeding
8,400 feet (NGVD), and flows generally in an east to southeasterly direction.
At its Clear Creek confluence, Tucker Gulch drains 11.43 square miles and the
elevation is approximately 5,640 feet (NGVD). Cressmans Gulch, having a drain-
age area of 1.48 square miles, is the major tributary to Tucker Gulch within
the study area. The detailed study reach of Tucker Gulch is approximately
two miles long with the upstream study limit near the mouth of Golden Gate Canyon.
Cressmans Gulch was also studied from its mouth, located 650 feet downstream
of the North Ford Street crossing of Tucker Gulch, to the base of the foothills,
a study reach of approximately 1.9 miles.

- ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS -

This report was prepared by Muller Engineering Company, Inc., Consulting Engineers
of Lakewood, Colorado, under contract with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control
District (Agreement No. 82-1.2).

Kenney s Run, the right bank tributary, drains a total of 5.62 square miles
and includes a portion of South Table Mountain and Lookout Mountain within its
drainage basin. The high point in the basin is at the top of Lookout Mountain
with the elevation exceeding 7,560 feet (NGVD). U.S. Highway #6 crosses the
basin in a northwest/southeast direction and fOY1nls a major sub-basin boundary,
dividing the total basin approximately in half. The main stem of Kenneys Run and
six other tributary reaches were selected for detailed study with a total reach
length of approximately 6.4 miles. The specific study reaches are identified
as follows:

Topographic mapping, digitized cross sections, and survey data for stream crossings
were provided by Delta Aerial Surveys, Inc., of Denver, Colorado. Original map-
ping was prepared with two-foot contour intervals at a scale of 1" = 100' (Reference
3). The final mapping was reduced by 50-percent for printing in this report.

The mapping was prepared according to the specifications of the Urban Drainage and
Flood Control District.

1. Kenney s Run - main stem from confluence with Clear Creek to 20th St.

2. East Fork Kenney s Run - tri butary to Kenney s Run from 20th Street
to study limit, upstream of Boy's School Road

3. West Fork Kenneys Run - tributary to Kenneys Run from 20th Street
to study limit ending upstream of U.S. Highway #6 near
north-yu~rter corner of Section 10, T. 4 S., R. 70 W.

4. Tributary No.1-left bank tributary to West Fork Kenney s Run, begin-
ning 300 feet downstream of U.S. Highway #6 and ending
near east-quarter corner of Section 4, T. 4 S., R. 70 W.

Assistance with researching historical flood data was provided by Ms. Sherry Oaks,
a geo-historian at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Historical photographs were made available by the Western History Department of
the Denver Public Library and by the City of Golden.

2
