<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Tucker Gulch: The study reach for Tucker Gulch begins at its confluence with <br />Clear Creek (Cross section No.1) and ends at Cross Section No. 46, 2900 feet <br />upstream of State Highway #93 (Foothills Road). Floodplain limits and water <br />surface profiles for this reach are shown on Sheets 5 to 8. <br /> <br />Development along Tucker Gulch consists of industrial, commercial and residential <br />in the area downstream of Highway #58. Above Highway #58, residential development <br />has continued along both sides of the drainageway. With the exception of some <br />channelization work which has occurred upstream of 7th Place, the Tucker Gulch <br />floodplain has experienced no significant encroachment in the upper reaches. <br /> <br />3. The stability of the bridge crossings could be threatened by large <br />debris and high velocity flows characteristic of Tucker Gulch. <br /> <br />4. Although the hydraulic model indicates that flood flows are confined <br />to the channel, downstream of Highway 58, the momentum of the flood <br />waters, coupled with the existance of flood debris, could force flow <br />out of the bank at the bend between 9th and 10th Streets, causing <br />flood waters to continue down Ford Street. This condition may explain <br />damages that occurred in 1965. Blocked bridges will also contribute <br />to premature overbank flooding and higher water surface levels. <br /> <br />5. The existing trailer court and other properties located at the Tucker <br />Gulch mouth are subject to inundation by 100-year flooding from both <br />Tucker Gulch and Clear Creek (Sheet 8). <br /> <br />Stream crossings within the reach include 10th Street, 9th Street, railroad <br />bridge (spur to Coors Porcelain Company), State Highway #58 overpass, 7th Place, <br />1st Street, North Ford Street and State Highway #93. The floodplain for this <br />reach is not widespread and has maximum widths of 200 feet to 250 feet. The <br />stream gradient is steep with slopes exceeding 2%. <br /> <br />6. Coors diversion works and properties on the south bank of Clear Creek <br />are subject to damage resulting from high velocity flows and debris <br />entering the Clear Creek channel from Tucker Gulch (Sheet 8). <br /> <br />Shallow flooding or sheet flow areas are shown where the 100-year water surface <br />profile is less than the corresponding ground level but upstream conditions <br />such as road grade overtopping cause the shallow flooding condition. The over- <br />topping of North Ford Street is an example of this condition (Sheet 6) <br /> <br />Cressmans Gulch: The study reach for Cressmans Gulch begins at its confluence <br />with Tucker Gulch (Cross section No. 27.1) and ends at Cross Section No. 27.31, <br />3140 feet upstream of Pine Ridge Road. Floodplain limits and water surface <br />profiles for this reach are shown on Sheets 2, 3, 4 and 6. <br /> <br />The following paragraphs describe certain problem areas along Tucker Gulch: <br /> <br />1. At the North Ford Street crossing of Tucker Gulch, 100-year flows <br />overtop the road grade by 2- to 2.5-feet. The existing culvert is <br />capable of passing the 10-year discharge without overtopping (Sheet 6). <br /> <br />2. The flat slope upstream of the Church Ditch siphon causes sediment <br />deposits downstream of the 7th Place bridge and forces floodwaters <br />over North Ford Street for a short reach under Highway #58. In <br />addition, the constricted channel beneath Highway #58 contributes <br />to the problem and forces partial inundation of the 7th Place <br />bridge superstructure (Sheet 8). <br /> <br />Stream crossings within the study reach include an abandoned railroad grade, <br />State Highway #93 (Foothills Road), Pine Ridge Road and a small private road <br />1500 feet upstream of Highway #93. Beginning at Highway #93, the alignment <br />of Cressmans Gulch has been relocated from its historic channel to east of the <br />abandoned railroad grade. The historic channel now ends at North Ford Street <br />as shown on Sheet 4. The historic channel has been stationed separately for <br />identification purposes. <br /> <br />Development in the study area consists of two residential properties located <br />east of North Ford Street, a residential subdivision named North Golden Edge <br /> <br />18 <br />
