C()IMENTARV
SHEET 14 OF 45
STATtON 1572 TO STATION 1632
REACH 4

CCtlMENTARY
SHEET 14{F45
STATION 1572 TO STATION 1632
REACH 4
(Continued)

This reach includes a Public Service Company generating plant as well as
commerical, industrial, and residential land uses. There is a flood area
of approximately 75 acres on the left bank oused by inadequate capacity
downstream of Evans Avenue and the Evans Avenue bridge,

and bench from Station 1572 to 1576. Finally, the improvements to the
Evans Avenue bridge should be made, including the addition of the bay on
the left side. The additional recOOl1lended improvements could be imple_
mented whenever funds or the opportunity exist.

The reCOfTlllended plan in this reach is limited structural improvements.
These include lowering the channel bottom by approximately 2 feet from
Stations 1572 to 1,598. It maybe necessary to use heavy equipment to
scrape the bedrock in order to lower the channel. Frorn Station 1572 to
Station 1576 the left bank should be moved to within 10 feet of the road
dlldreplacedbyavertical wall along the road 20 feet hiqh and a bench 50
feet wide at about the 2-year flood level whiCh would incrpase channel
capacity and provide wildlife habitat. The Evans Avenuebridqeshouldbe
improved by constructin9 M additional 30-foot bay on the left side of the
bridge. On the right side of the bridge the existing trail should be moved
adjacent to the right abutment and the material between the trdil and the
rher replaced by a vertical retdining wall. Between Stations 1586 and
1593 the right bank should be moved back and covered with grass. Beh,een
Station 1613 and 1620 the rubble and concrete on the right bank beinq used
for erosion protection shuld be replaced byriprap. The Public Service
Company diversion darn at dpproximat~ly Station 1626 should be repair~d and
~ boat chute added.

The floodplain management approach in this reach js to enforce floodplain
management regulations in th~ identified flood area and encourage the pur-
chase of flood 1nsurance unt il the improvem~nts recomrn~nded can be imple-
mented.

COST ESTIMATE
SHEET 14 Of 45
SOUTH PLATTE RIVER
STATlON1572+00TOSTATlON1632+00

CONSTRUCTION

The first priority in this reach is the Channel lowering between Stations
1572 and 1598.
