Reestablishing dparian vegetation in combination with, and with-
out rock bank channel stabilization, is important. The enhance-
ment of wildlife habitat shall be included. Wildlife habitat
advantages to the community as a whole will be considered.

REACH 1 - CHATFIELD TO COLUMBINE

10. The short-tel"m and long-term water quality and aquatic hdbitat
irnpactsof the recommended plan <\re to be presefJted.

The recommended alternati~e includes maintaining the existing channel
alignment with riprap erosion protection in the vicinity of the gravel
lakes. In other areas erosion protection would be provided by planting
willows and other natural vegetation. The natural vegetation will enhance
the recreation alternative which is to develop a regional park reserve.
The regional park re~erve would pre~erve the natural river corridor by
offering an undisturbed area for wildlife habitat and passive recreation
u~e~.

11. All new or reconstructed bridges should be bui1twlth at least 2
feet of freeboard above the lOrJ-year water surface to reduce the
probability of clogging by floatable debris.

REACH 2 - COLUMBINE TO OXFORO
The Corp5 of Engineers channel Improvement project includes a realignment
of the e~istln9 channel, replacement of the UnIon Avenue drop structure and
the Brown Ditch diversion at Co1l11T1bine Val1ey, and creatlng achanne 1 cap-
able Of containing the lOQ-yearflood.
