These 'loals were specific items which all al ternat hes eval u~ <br />ated were weighed against. The ultimate reCOlTJ11ended plan was determined <br />based on its abllitytosatisfythegoals. <br /> <br />~r-3 <br /> <br />o The potential of the river corridor for parks and recreation <br />should be exploited to incrl'ase land values, socHl har'll(IIlY, <br />health, and reduce dependence on the automobile. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Conflicting demands on the limited water of the South Platte River <br />must heoptirnized "ithin constraints imposedhyColorado law and <br />the various needs related to the river. <br /> <br />The goals of the master planning work for the South Platte River are 1 isted <br />as follows: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Wildlife and riparian vegetation conditions should be improved . <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Preserve and improve the South Platte River's drainage and flood <br />control capacity. <br /> <br />The plan Should insure that proposals and recommendations are <br />consistent with overall regional goals and objectives. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />The master plan Should reduce to the extent possible future flood <br />damageswhi1esystenatica11yreducfngexistingfloorldil'nagepoten- <br />tial. <br /> <br />o Erosion and sedimentation prOblems shou1d he minimized. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Existing flood prohlems should be mitigated by applying the proper <br />combfnation of non-structural and structural methods. <br /> <br />Alternatives Evaluated <br />A total of nln" alt"rnatives were ~onsidered for each of the reaches. ~t <br />all of the al ternd.t ives were studied i~ detai 1 for each rea~h, however.
