A meeting was scheduled with Tom Weaver, County Administrator, at 9:00 am on
November 10, 2000, However, due to scheduling conflicts, this meeting was postponed, A
phone meeting with Mr, Weaver was conducted on November 21,2000,

. The County has not had any problems with either the floodplain maps or floodplain
regulations within the county, The floodplains are generally narrow and/or near steep canyon
walls, so the floodplains generally do not make the best building locations, Normally, once
someone learns that their proposed building is in the floodplain, they move it out of the
floodplain,

. The County does have floodplain regulations which they enforce, and they seem to be
working,

. Flooding usually occurs in the fall due to torrential downpours,

. There has not been any recent flooding, There were predictions of flooding three years ago,
but it never occurred, Tom has lived in Mancos his entire life, and only remembers the river
out of its banks once,

Field Review
. The eastern portion of the county primarily includes the headwaters of the Mancos River and
tributaries to the Dolores River, while the western portion of the county primarily includes
high plateaus and valleys within the San Juan River Basin,

<>

1016

montezuma_co_fieldrpt.doc
November 21 , 2000
