Once again we have joined our peers and colleagues in
scenic Steamboat Springs for a variety of interesting seminars and workshops focusing on
floodplain and stormwater management.

For this our 12'h annual conference, the conference theme is "2001: A Drainage Odyssey". The
term "odyssey" denotes a long, adventurous voyage, and communicates CASFM's long, term
commitment to finding new, innovative solutions for stormwater and floodplain management
issues.

We are honored to have Dennis Mileti from the Natural Hazards Center as our keynote speaker.
Mr. Mileti will open the conference with a poignant discussion of natural hazards in the United
States. After lunch we will move on to a plenary session discussing ways to generate public
input for your projects. Project presentations for the 2001 CASFM award finalists will take place
later Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday's activities will include nine different technical sessions focusing on regional hydrol09Y
and channel morphology, and stormwater and erosion control. After lunch there will be two
different workshops focusing on FEMA CLOMR/LOMR application process and updates for the
UDFCD Criteria Manual volumes 1 and 2. There will also be a field trip identifying riparian zone
plant species. At 7:00pm we will come together for the CASFM Association dinner and awards
presentation.

On Friday our concurrent technical sessions will include a variety of topics on watershed and
river restoration as well as floodplain and stormwater management. That afternoon, we will bring
the conference to a close with the CASFM annual golf tournament.

There are many individuals who devoted their time and effort to planning and arrangements for
this year's conference and many previous conferences.
