However, none of these wildlife forms is known to fre-
quent or inhabit the Pueblo-Fountain Creek area.

45. ARCHEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL RESOURCES. The National
Register of Historic Places, National Registry of Natural Landmarks,
and the Colorado Inventory of Historic Sites have been consulted to
identify listed properties which may be in the study area. The
consultation produced no archeological sites or natural landmarks.
There are, however, 18 historic sites listed in the Colorado Inventory
of Historic Sites, four of which also appear on the National Register
of Historic Places. The four National Register sites are located
within the city limits of Pueblo in the Fountain Creek flood plain.
Seven of the other historic sites are similarly situated. Of the
remaining seven sites, one is a trail along Fountain Creek north
of Pueblo and the other six sites are in Pueblo but out of the
flood plain. The Office of the State Archaeologist of Colorado and
the Colorado Historical Society have been asked if there are any
pending nominations to these registers. At the present time there
are no.ne...

Two archeological investigations performed in 1977 have, however,
provided additional information. One may result in future register
nominations. An intensive survey of Fountain Creek between College
Road and the Arkansas River yielded no significant archeological or
historical sites. However, an archeological sample survey of Foun-
tain Creek north of Pueblo recorded 20 prehistoric and 2 historic
sites. It is expected that a complete survey of the study area
north of Pueblo will produce a substantial number of additional
sites, primarily attributed to the Archaic Period dating between
about 3500 B.C. and 500 B.C.

46. POWER POTENTIAL. An appraisal of the hydropower potential
of Fountain Dam waS made on the basis that 20,000 acre-feet of stor-
age and the average streamflow would be available for the production
of hydropower. It waS determined that the project could support an
installation of 5,700 kilowatts. However, since water rights for
the storage and the Fountain Creek streamflow are not available for
the production of hydropower, the inclusion of hydropower in the
project is not recommended.

(-

19
