4-""'-/16

BUFFALO CREEK RAIN GAUGE STATIONS

\

With spring coming upon us _ must again begin to monitor the rain falls In the Buffalo Creek Fire and
Flood Zones. This Is a reminder of how to use the rain gauges supplied by the US Weather SeIVice to our
community.

The primary purpose for these rain gauges Is for the Weather Service to confirm their forecasting. A
secondary purpose Is for flood mitigation personnel to collect data as to what impact varying rain amounts
are having In the Buffalo creek Flood Zone.

Therefore, _ hive created a rain chart that you can use to monitor the rain amounts at your residence.
The chart Is to be used for one month only. At the end of the month _ will collect the rain charts and
forward them to the ftood mitigation team for study.

We also need you to can the National Weather SeIVlce collect at 303-381-0663 or 303-361-0700 If you are
receiving rain in an amount of .25 inches or more in fifteen minutes or less. Also you may make more than
one call if _ are receiving long hard rains.

A new aspect of this years monitoring is the US Geological SUIVey is placing satellite monitoring devices in
several areas of the bumlflood zone. A member of the USGS team might call you to confirm what their
instruments are telling them.

If you have questions please call Don Smith (838 5258) or Page Whitesides (838 8204)
