Urbanization

I

Little Dry Creek drainage basin lies in one of the fastest growing parts

of the metropolitan area and portions of the watershed now in the prairie

rangeland lie in the path of future development. This report deals only

with existing and ultimate development, not with timing of future growth.

Existing Land Use. Aerial photos were taken in May 1972 of the entire

basin in order to estimate the extent of present urbanization and to define

variables for hydrologic analysis. In the northwest end of the basin

through Englewood and part of Cherry Hills Village urbanization is esti-

mated to have reached its ultimate development. In unincorporated Arapa-

hoe County, Greenwood Village, and the remainder of Cherry Hills Village urban-

izatiOn is in various stages of development, but may be characterized as spotty

and light density with some exceptions. In May 1972 there was no concen-

trated development within the basin in Douglas County. In the fall, how-

ever, street layouts were being made in a tract in Section 4, west of

point 208 on Chart 2.
