Zones Al and A3:

Special Flood Hazard Areas inundated by
the IOO-year flood, determined by
detailed methods; base flood elevations
shown, and zones subdivided according
to Flood Hazard Factors.

Zone B:

Areas between the Special Flood Hazard
Areas and the limits of the SOO-year
flood, including areas of the SOQ-year
flood plain that are protected from the
IOO-year flood by dike, levee, or other
water control structure; also areas
subject to certain types of IOO-year
shallow flooding where depths are less
than 1.0 foot; and areas subject to
IOO-year flooding from sources with
drainage areas less than 1 square mile.
Zone B is not subdivided.

Zone c:

Areas of minimal flooding.

The flood elevation differences, Flood Hazard Factors, flood insur-
ance zones, and base flood elevations for each flooding source
studied in detail in the community are summarized in Table 3.

5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the Town of Frederick is, for
insurance purposes, the principal result of the Flood Insurance
Study. This map contains the official delineation of flood insurance
zones and base flood elevation lines. Base flood elevation lines
show the locations of the expected whole-foot water-surface eleva-
tions of the base (lOa-year) flood. This map is developed in
accordance with the latest flood insurance map preparation guide-
lines published by the Federal Eflergency Management Agency.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

No other flood plain delineation studies have been made for the Town of
Frederick. However, a drainage study was completed for the community by
Nelson, Haley, Patterson and Quirk, Inc. (Reference 12), and a preliminary
report on flood control is currently being prepared by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, Omaha District.

The lOa-year discharges computed for this study are higher than the
values obtained in either of the above reports because failure of the
Frederick levee was not considered in the other reports. The Nelson,
Haley, Patterson and Quirk, Inc./ and U.s. Army Corps of Engineers reports
only reflect overtopping of the levee, thus the discharges are lower.

10
