their water directly out of Chatfield Reservoir via a common 54-inch
pipeline. Therefore, even though these three ditches are in one sense
"below" Chatfield, their calls for water to be passed through the reser-
voir do not result in increased flows in the South Platte immediately
downstream from the dilTl, since their delivery system from the reservoir
bypasses the river channel completely. The water rights currently
decreed to these ditches are summarized in the following table:

*The "basin rank" numbers were assigned by the State Engineer's Office
during the course of the 1981 tabulation and reflect the relative
seniority of the water rights: the lower the number the more senior the
right. The basin rank numbers have been included in this section since
they provide a common basis for comparing the seniority of all the water
rights discussed.

The foregoing tabulation of water rights was provided by Mr. Joe T.

Clayton, the Water Commissioner for District 8, and represents the state
administrative authority's direct knowledge of these water rights. The
