,

.

.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Improvements in the Town's Water System
Town of Granby

July 16, 1992

A brief engineering report, attached to this Project Summary, clearly
describes each of the improvements to be made to the Town/s water system. The
need for each improvement is also explained and cost estimates are provided
for each component to be constructed.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Improvements to the water treatment process include three new backwash ponds,
an intake structure on the Fraser River to replace the existing structure,-and
a new 12-inch bypass line running from the intake structure directly to the
water treatment plant. A new well field will consist of two wells, a well
house, and chlorinatio/'lfacilities. A 12-inch water line approximately 1750
feet in length will be constructed from the water treatment plant to the south
side of the Fraser River.

PROJECT NEED

The improvements to the water treatment process are needed because of taste
and odor problems. The new intake structure is needed in order to avoid,
during periods every year, temporary modifications to a downstream diversion
dam (required to maintain the proper water surface level at the intake
structure). The new well field is needed to provide a backup source of water
supply in the event of temporary water quality problems on the Fraser River,
the primary water source. The new water line to the south side of the Fraser
River is needed to serve a subdivision which is presently obtaining permits
for construction.

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY

The technical aspects of each project component are discussed in the
engineering report.

PROJECT COSTS AND FINANCIAL PLAN

The following costs are summarized from the engineering report.

Intake Structure and Bypass
Backwash Ponds
Well Field
Water Line Extension

.$41,100
$148,500
$180,400
S102,400

Estimated Construction Cost

S472,400

The Town will finance the project through a loan of S400,000 from the Colorado
Water Resources and Power Development Authority. The balance of the funds
needed will be provided from cash on hand.
