PROJECT SUMMARY

Improvements in the Town's Water System
Town of Granby

. July 16, 1992

A brief engineering report, attached to this Project Summary. clearly
, describes each of the improvements to be made to the Town's water system. The
need for each improvement is also explained and cost estimates are provided
for each comi>onent to bl;! constructed.;

PROJECT NEED

-
The improvements to the water.treatment process are needed because of taste
and odor problems. The new intake structure is needed in order to avoid,
during periods every year, temporary modifications to a downstream diversion
dam (required.to maintain the proper water surface level at the intake
structure), The new well field is needed to provide a backup source of water
supply in the event of temporary water quality problems on the Fraser River,
the primary water source. The new water line to the south side of the Fraser
River is needed to serve a subdivision which is presently obtaining permits
for construction.

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY

The technical aspects of each project component are discussed in the
engineering report.

PROJECT COSTS, AND FINANCIAL PLAN

The following costs are summarized from the engineering report.

Intake Structure and Bypass
Backwash Ponds
We 11 Fi e 1 d
Water Line Extension

$41,100
$148,500
$180,400
$102,400

Estimated Construction Cost

$472,400

The Town will finance the project through a loan of $400,000 from the Colorado
Water Resources and Power Development Authority. The balance of the funds
needed will be provided from cash on hand.
