COMMUNITY OF WELDONA
MORGAN COUNTY, COLORADO

Conceptual Flood Hazard Mitigation Alternatives

The basic flood hazard mitigation opportunities that exist are presented in the following table,

Relocate Weidona $3,000;000 Low
Fioodproof or elevate structures $1,000,000 High
Structural Flood Control $ 600,000 High
Measures
Do nothing $0 Low

The cost estimates shown above are very preliminary and should be used for comparison purposes only,
Detailed cost estimates should be established prior to selection and implementation of the desired
mitigation alternative, On behalf of Morgan County, the CWCS is developing conceptual design plans for
the "Structural Flood Control Measures" aiternative. The structural alternative may consist of the following
features:

. Improve capacity of existing drainage channel that runs parallel to the railroad embankment.

. Construct new drainage channel from Highway 144 to the South Platte River along CR 9 (R.O.W)
acquisition will be required),

. Remove existing undersized culverts at several locations and replace with larger culverts. Add
new culverts at two locations to increase flow capacity.

. Construct a flow channel along Warren Street by lowering the street, inverting the crown, and
paving the street surface.

. Construct a ring levee to protect the school buildings.

. Construct a diversion dike to direct upstream flows to the Warren Street flow channel.

. Raise the elevation of two roadways and provide culverts to the improved drainage ditch,

. Remove the existing railroad trestle bridge (east of Weldon a).
