<br />Pueblo Flood Hawrd MiJi"al;on Pion <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br /> <br />The Arkansas River in the City of Pueblo. <br /> <br />Purpose of Study <br /> <br />On June 2 and 3, 1994, two intense <br />thunderstorms deluged Pueblo, Colorado in <br />less than ten hours of each other. Puebloans <br />went to bed Thursday, June 2 thinking the <br />worst was over. There was some minor <br />flooding, a few stalled cars in flooded <br />intersections, and some mud in the streets_ <br />But just after midnight early Friday morning, <br />the storm dropped up to 4_9 inches of rain in <br />an hour and a half By daylight parts of the <br />community .were stunned at the damage the <br />storm left behind_ The thunderstorm of June <br />3 1994 was one of the worst storms <br />, <br />Pueblo had seen in years. <br /> <br />. , <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Hazard Mitigation <br />Plan is first to identify the critical flood <br />hazard issues for the city of Pueblo and the <br />surrounding area_ Second, the plan will study <br />the incident and to identify actions that <br />could be taken in the future to help mitigate <br />the effects of a similar event_ This Pueblo <br />Flood Hazard Mitigation Plan has been <br />prepared by the Colorado Office of <br />Emergency Management with support from <br />local, county and state personnel. <br /> <br />1 <br />
