As you are aware, FEMA has
published a new Flood Insurance Rate Map for your community that presents flood hazard delineations
along the Wiley Drainage Ditch. The CWCB would now like to formally review and approve the new
floodplain mapping, which would enhance your ability to regulate the 1 DO-year floodplains more
effectively, State enabling law for local zoning and subdivision regulation requires that technical
information used for regulation of floodprone areas be designated and approved by the CWCB.

The "Flood Insurance Rate Map, Town of Wiley, Colorado, October 6, 2000" that was prepared by
FEMA includes approximate (Zone A) floodplain information for the Wiley Drainage Ditch. On your
behalf, the CWCB is proposing to designate and approve the Flood Insurance Rate Maps at its November
2000 Board meeting. This proposed technical review by the staff and designation by the Board will not
require any financial obligation or resource commitments from the Town of Wiley.

It would be much appreciated if you would send us a request letter for our file using the attached "sample
request letter" as a guide,

I will be calling you in the near future to discuss the review and designation process and to answer any
questions you may have about your floodplain infonnation. I am also terribly disappointed to learn of
CDOT's plan to back down from the Wiley bridge project that we've been working so hard on for many
months now. Please call me at (303) 866-3441 if you have any new infonnation on the project, or if you
have immediate concerns regarding this issue, Thank you,

Sincerely,

---7

<
~7
,,::/ .__- k

...---/-7

---r// _
c-""
Thomas W, Browning, P.E.
Flood Control and Floodplain Management Section

//

c:\seca\resolut\comm-Iett\wiley.doc

Flood Protection.
