Citizen Participation and Public Officials' Input <br /> <br />Location <br /> <br />The citrr of Sterling, founded in 1881, is located 125 miles northeast <br /> <br />of Denver, Colorado, in one of the state's richest agricultural areas. <br /> <br />Situated on flat terrain in the South Platte Hi ver Valley, St<irling <br /> <br />enjoys the economic influences of a productive, irrigated farllling region <br /> <br />which produces large quantities of cOrn, wheat, and sugar beets. In <br /> <br />addition, the agricultural economy fOr the community iB suppor-ted by <br /> <br />many cattle fattening and dairy production farm units. Sterling is the <br /> <br />principal trading center of northeastern Colorado. <br /> <br />Topography <br /> <br />The bench mark elevation for Sterling iB 3,939 feet. The highest <br /> <br />topography in the immediate area of U.rban development iB to the south- <br /> <br />west where the elevation is approximately 3,950 feet. I'he northeast <br /> <br />part of the Sterling region is at an elevation of approximately 3,925 <br /> <br />feet. Thus, across the developed ar<ia, t,he topography only varies about <br /> <br />25 feet in a total distance of two miles for an average grade of less <br /> <br />than 0.3 of one percent. <br />
