Peru State College located in Peru <br />also serves the project area. Nebraska City also has a private elementary school, junior high <br />school, and high school. <br /> <br />Medical facilities for Nebraska City and the project area include St. Mary's Hospital, a <br />49-bed hospital, and two medical clinics (Family Medical Clinic and the Family Physicians of <br />Nebraska City), The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services (Nebraska Department of <br />Economic Development 1993), Transportation services in the project area include Omaha <br />Eppley Airfield with 8 airlines and 6 cargo lines, Burlington Northern Railroad and Union <br />Pacific Railroad. Water, electrical, and gas services are provided through Nebraska City <br />Utilities, <br /> <br />The property tax structure as of December 1993 is based on various amounts per $100 <br />dollars of assessed property values. Recreation: According to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development <br />(NDED) one public golf course, nine public parks, four public tennis courts and one public <br />swimming pool are within 10 miles of Nebraska City. Hunting and fishing are the major <br />recreational activities in the project area. <br /> <br />1. Aesthetics: The aesthetics of the Hamburg Bend area are typical for agricultural and <br />wetland areas along the Missouri River, <br /> <br />m. Land Use: The land use and the zoning in the project area is primarily agricultural <br />with industrial use designated for the Nebraska City Power Plant (Pers. comm., Otoe County <br />Zoning Department 1994). <br /> <br />4. SITE ORTECTIVES <br /> <br />The Hamburg Bend Project is part of the Missouri River Fish and Wildlife Mitigation <br />Project, the objective of which is to restore large-river habitat and associated chutes and <br />backwaters in the floodplain adjacent to the main channel of the Missouri River.
