Chart 1 is a general map of the White River Basin <br /> <br />and also shows USGS stream gaging station locations. Peak flow values for <br /> <br />the standard project, 500-, 100-, 50-, 10~year floods. were developed using <br /> <br />detailed methods at specified index points, (chart 2). <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION OF STUDY AREA <br /> <br />The White River basin in Co~orado is located in central Colorado between <br /> <br />the Colorado River on the south and the Yampa River on the north. The White <br /> <br />River basin rises from 5100 feet at the State line to 12,000 feet in the <br /> <br />White River Plateau and flows west to its confluence with the Green River in <br /> <br />Utah. The White River Plateau is a high mesa separated from the Continental <br /> <br />Divide on the east by the Colorado and Yampa Rivef basins. The Plateau's <br /> <br /> <br />elevation is generally 10,000 feet with peaks to 12,000 feet. Most of the <br /> <br />south boundary of the Basin is the Book and Roan Cliffs which. form the <br /> <br />divide between the White and Colorado rivers. The North Boundary is the <br /> <br />divide that connects a series of peaks and mountains running from Flat Top <br /> <br />Mountain through Pagoda Peak, Sleepy Cut Peak, Uranium Peak, Magnetic Mountain, <br /> <br />Wapite Peak, Tanks Peak, Blue Mountain and on to the Utah~Colorado State <br /> <br />line. The river basin east of Rangely is approximately 107 river miles long <br /> <br />and averages 35 miles wide. Total drainage area is 3310 sq mi.
