Each zone was assigned one of the following flood
insurance zone designations:

Zone A:

Special Flood Hazard Areas inundated by the
lOa-year flood, determined by approximate
methods; no base flood elevations or FHFs
determined.

Zones Ai, A2, A3,
A4, AS, A6, A9,
and A13:

Special Flood Hazard Areas inundated by the 100-
year flood, determined by detailed methods; base
flood elevations shown, and zones subdivided
according to FHFs.

Zone B:

Areas between the Special Flood Hazard Areas and
the limits of the SO a-year flood, including
areas of the SOO-year floodplain that are
protected from lOa-year flood by dike, levee, or
other water control structure; areas subject to
certain types of lOa-year shallow flooding where
depths are less than 1.0 foot.

Zone C:

Areas not subject to flooding by the SO a-year
flood, including areas that are protected from
SOO-year floods by dike, levee, or other water
control structure; not subdivided.

Table 3, "Flood Insurance Zone Data," summarizes the
elevation differences, Flood Hazard Factors, flood insurance
and base food elevations for the segments of each flooding
studied in detail in Adams County.

flood
zone s ,
source

S.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the unincorporated areas of Adams
County is, for insurance purposes, the principal product of the
Flood Insurance Study. This map contains the official delineation
of flood insurance zones and base flood elevat ions. Base flood
elevation lines show the locations of expected whole-foot water-
surface elevations of the base (loa-year) flood. The base flood
elevations and zone numbers are used by insurance agents, in
conjunction with structure elevations and characteristics, to
assign actuarial insurance rates to structures and contents insured
under the National Flood Insurance Program.

29
