The 1974 flow at Uayd~n is one <br />of the controlling floods on the envelope curve of historic flood peaks. <br />chart 4. This high peak flow is bplieved to have been causpd primarily by <br />rainfall on the non-snow covered areas between St~amboat Springs and Hayden. <br />The 1921 event is part of the general flooding that occurred throughout ' <br />Colorado as the result of snov,nelt augmented by the general rains on 4-9 <br />and 14-15 June. <br /> <br />Flow records on Fortification Creek are meager. Maximum flows occur <br />during the Knch-June period and result from snowLO!'lt or a c:o",bi.r:ation <br />of s'no"",elt 2nd rainfalL The highest recorded peak flo'..1 occurred on <br />23 March 1947 and was 841 cfs.
