SOURCES OF DATA

Topographical maps of the study area were compiled by

photogrammetric methods from aerial photographs taken in November

1975. These maps have a scale of 1" - 400' and a contour interval

of 2 feet. Aerial photos were taken by Scharf & Associates, Denver,

Colorado. Control, topography, drafting and reproduction was by

Nelson, Haley, Patterson and Quirk, Inc., Greeley, Colorado.

Structural and elevation data of bridges and culverts were

obtained during visits to the community. Cross sections were devel-

oped and/or supplemented using information obtained in tho fiold or

scaled from topographic maps. Seventy-four cross sections were used

to develop data for this report. Plates 17 and 18 show typical cross

sections used; locations of the cross sections are shown on the flood

profile plates. Cross sections not appearing in this report are not

in reproducible form, but are available in the District Office for

inspection.

Hydraulic computations were accomplished utilizing the

September 1971 version of the Hydrologic Engineering Center Computer

Program, updated in January 1976. The starting water surface eleva-

tion for the Cucharas River was obtained by the "slope area" method,

beginning at the downstream end of the study area.

All elevations used in this report are measured from U.S.

Coast and Geodetic Survey 1929 mean sea level (msl) datum. To assist

report users in locating actual flood boundaries or for determining

the elevations of local structures in relation to flood elevations,

a tabulation of elevation reference marks is shown on Plate 9.

Data developed in the preparation of this report is on

file in the Office of the Albuquerque District, U.S, Army Corps of

Engineers, P.O. Box 1580, Albuquerque, New Mexico and will be re-

tained for future reference.

4
