Box 8101 Arvada, Colorado 80001-8101 Community: City of Arvada, Colorado Community No.: 085072 Panel Affected: 0006 B Effective Date of This Revision: SEP 17 1996 102-D Dear Mayor Frie: This responds to a request for a revision to the effective Flood Insurance Study and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) map for your community. Specifically, this responds to a facsimile dated August 8, 1996, from Mr. Brian R. Ladd, P.E., B & S Consulting Engineers, regarding the effective Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the City of Arvada, Colorado. With his facsimile, Mr. Ladd provided additional information to support his February 12, 1996, request for a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR). Mr. Ladd requested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective FIRM to show the effects of a detailed hydraulic analysis based on more detailed topographic information. The detailed hydraulic analysis is for an area of shallow overland flooding between 60th Avenue and the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad west of Sheridan Boulevard, also referred to as the Bates Lake Drainageway. All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with Mr. Ladd's letters dated February 12 and April 8, 1996, and his August 8 facsimile. Because this LOMR solely incorporates more detailed information, fees were not assessed for the review. We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM, and have revised the FIRM to modify the floodplain boundary delineations and zone designations of the flood having a I-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) for an area between 60th Avenue and the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad west of Sheridan Boulevard. The width of the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) designated as Zone AO (Depth 2) for the above- referenced area has decreased. The detailed hydraulic analysis based on more detailed topographic information indicates average base flood depths of less than I foot for much of the area along Bates Lake Drainageway north of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. The analysis also indicates that the flow path of the base flood is located approximately 300 feet west of the flow path for the SFHA shown on the effective FIRM. The area inundated by this shallow flooding is designated as Zone X on the revised FIRM and is approximately 400 feet wide. The modifications are shown on the enclosed annotated copy of FIRM Panel 0006 B for the City of Arvada, Colorado. This LOMR hereby revises this panel of the effective FIRM dated February 19, 1992.
