.

.

.

TBClDfiCAL ADDBNDUII

Sul.phur Creek Basin Hydrol.ogic Investigation

PREFACB

This technical. addendum was prepared to provide the back-up
materials, methods and input parameters for The Sulphur Creek Basin
Hvdroloqic Investiqation which was performed by the Colorado Water
Conservation Board (CWCB) for the Town of Meeker and Rio Blanco
County, Colorado. Following a review of the Sulphur Creek Basin,
the Board determined that the most feasible method for the
development of flood discharges waS through the use of a rainfall-
runoff model. There are no stream gage records for the study
stream, therefore, a Statistical Analysis (Log Pearson Type III)
was not possible and a regional regression equation was limited due
to the lack of areal data.

When considering the rainfall-runoff models, the Soil
Conservation Service's (SCS) TR 20 Program was more applicable than
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' HEC-l Program due to the rural
nature of the study basin/watershed. The measurable watershed
characteristics are more suitable to a TR 20 model than other
rainfall-runoff models; therefore, the Board recommended that it be
used.
