The report also projects the
reduction in flood damages which can be expected to result
from the construction of the proposed facilities.

Re: Lakewood Gulch Master Plan
S&G No. 78017-42

We have enjoyed working with you, Tom Goebel of Lakewood
Nick Skifalides and Joe Barsoom of Denver. We feel that' the
input of these and other individuals noted in the report has
resulted in the preparation of a Master Plan which represents
a feasible solution to the flooding potential along Lakewood
Gulch.

Dear Mr. Urbonas:

Presented with this letter is the Major Drainageway Planning
Phase B report ~or Lakewood Gulch in Jefferson County, Lakewood
and Denver. Th1s report completes the agreement between
Jefferson County, the Cities of Lakewood and Denver and the
Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, dated June 23, 1978.

The planning. for Lakewood Gulch has consisted of four phases of
work. The f1rst phase was the preparation of a report entitled
"Phase A, Preliminary Report on Major Drainageway Planning on
Lakewood and McIntyre Gulches," which was completed in December
1975 and r7vised in Jan~ary, 1976. This report was prepared bY'
McCall-El11ngson & Morr1ll, Inc. Consulting Engineers and
summarized hydrologic, hydraulic, and economic evaluations of
several alternatives which would reduce or eliminate existing
drainage problems within the Lakewood and McIntyre Gulch basins.

The second phase of the planning process for Lakewood Gulch
resulted in the pub~ication of "Flood Hazard Area Delineation,
Lakewood Gulch," wh1ch was prepared by Sellards & Grigg, Inc.
and completed in February, 1979. This report illustrated the
areas along the Lakewood Gulch channel which would be inundated
by a 100-year flood.

We have submitted to the Urban Drainage and Flood Control
District considerable additional information and computations
performed in the preparation of this report. If the report
leads to new questions or concepts, or if we can be of further
assistance in refining or interpreting statements or conclusions
presented herein, please feel free to contact us.

Very truly yours,
SELLARDS & GRIGG, INC.

}'w~. ~

John M. Hamilton, P.E.

t:r~rd~: ~S~l' PE-LS

JMH:GEH:lb
encl.

The third phase of the Master Plan for Lakewood Gulch was the
completion of an Addendum to the "Phase A" report described
earlier. This Addendum was prepared by Sellards & Grigg, Inc.
and published in March, 1979. The impetus for the Addendum was
the constru~tion of a Satellite Maintenance Facility by the
Denver Pub11c Works Department immediately adjacent to Lakewood
Gulch near Decatur Street. New hydraulic and economic evalua-
tions were made in a small reach of Lakewood Gulch extending
from the South Platte River to Federal Boulevard. These evalua-
tions supersede those published earlier in the "Phase A" report.

.
