TRES'I'0DYAREA The po~tion of the So~th Pl~tte River which flowa th~o~h the Denver metropolitan region includes the 45 atre~m miles from Waterton to Brighton, Colorado. The South Platte River at Denver carriea runoff from a drainage area tot~ling 4,850 square miles. Approxi~~tely 2,620 aq~are miles of this drainage area lies in the mountains above Waterton, Colorado. The remaining 2,230 aquare miles are drained by the major and minor tribu- taries which join the South Platte River between Waterton end Brighton. Themajortributar1es, PlW'llCreek, Bear Creek, Cherry Creak, Sand Creek and Clear C~eek, drain a total of 1,761 square miles.
