The official list places the number of bodies recovered at 78, <br />but many bodies that were washed downstre'um were not rccovered. <br />All t'omnllmication with, the outside world wus ('ut off,' as all tele- <br />I!ruph and telephone wires were down. The day after the flood <br />relief measureS were started by the city, assisted by local members <br />of the National Guard and the American Legion. II, .:1)" So great was the damage to railroad i <br />property not only in Pueblo but in the surrounding territory that, <br />not a relief train couM enter Pueblo for t.wo days.
