Moffat Couaty. The two FIS' are more recent than the Corps study and include minor revisions
to the information in the Corps study, so the FIS' were used for this report.

2.0

STUDY AREA

2.1 Location

The reports referenced above are available at the office of the Colorado Water C.o_nservation
Board, at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Region VII), at the City of Craig, and
at Moffat County.

The study reach of the Yampa River extends from Craig downstream to the upstream end of
Dinosaur National Monument. Although portions of the Yampa watershed are located in other
Colorado counties, and even in Wyoming, the entire study reach lies in Moffat County in
northwestem Colorado (see Figure 2).

2.2 Study Reach

The focus of this study on the Yampa River is from the downstream liinit of the FEMA detailed
study for Craig, Colorado (57 miles upstream of the Deerlodge Park gage) downstream to the
upstream limit of Dinosaur National Monument (1 mile upstream of the Deerlodge Park gage).
At the upstream limit of the study (Craig) the stream elevation is approximately 6150 feet and
at the downstream limit of the study the stream elevation is approximately 5600 feet. The study
reach contains three USGS gages. One gage is located at the upstream limit of the study, one
at the downstream limit, and one is located approximately in the middle of the reach.
Information for those three gages, as well as for two gages on tributary streams, is listed in Table
1.

TABLE I
GAGE DATA

rx~ml.g(qll~llpmQ$~y~~Ili!~9N';~9~iI.)

.-.-,-,'-:-,'...........:.....-...:.:.-,:.-.:.:..,.:.,.-.,".:.,.,.:.:.:.-.:..:,-.-.:..:.:.-,-,-.-.:,-.-.:.:...-,:.:.'
))GAGElD,
.,--,...,.,-,......,-.....-..-....-..-.-,'.-.-..-,-...,-...-,....-...-.....-,...,......-....,..:..,._'_.-.,..
...~~;t'mpg;9Q):'l:9;tmpl$)..

09247600
402815, 1073649

09251000
403010, 1080145

09260050
402708, 1083128

YAMPA RIVER 10
BELOW CRAIG

YAMPA RIVER AT 78
MA YBELL

1750

3410

09249750
402614, 1073850

09260000
403250, 1082525

YAMPA RIVER AT 10
DEERLODGE
PARK

WILLIAMS FORK 10
RIVER

LITILE SNAKE 74
RIVER (LILLY)

7660

419

3730

2

3
