The study was accepted by all parties present at this
meeting. Comments from the Colorado Water Conservation Board
(CWCB) which affected hydraulic computations have been incorporated
into this study.

In 1991, the CWCB requested that information contained in the 1983
SCS study be used to revise the Flood Insurance Study for the Town
of Wellington and Larimer County (Reference 1).

2.0 AREA STUDIED

2.1 Scope of Study

. This Flood Insurance S,tudy covers the incorporated areas of the
Town of Wellington, Larimer County, Colorado. The a~ea of study is
shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1).

Floods caused by the overflow of Boxelder Creek and Coal Creek
affecting the Town of Wellington were studied in detail.

The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority
given to all known flood hazards and areas of projected development
or proposed construction through 1992.

2.2 Community Description

The Town of Wellington is located
County, in northeast Colorado.
miles northeast of Fort Coll ins.
1970, and grew to a population
Census (Reference 3).

in the eastern part of Larimer
Wellington is approximately 10
It had a population of 691 in
of 1,215, according to the 1980

Floodplain development in Wellington is residential and commercial,
with most of this development occurring in the shallow flooding
area of Coal Creek.
