INTRODUCTION

A.

GENERAL

This report is part of a study authorized by Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UD&FCD) and
Douglas County in the agreement regarding Kinney Creek and Fonder Draw Watersheds Outfall Systems
Planoino and Flood Hazard Area Delineation for Portions of Kinney Creek Watershed. dated April,3, 2003
(Agreement No, 02-12,01), The study is divided into three parts as listed below:

. Outfall Systems Plan (OSP) Altematives Evaluation
. Outfall Systems Plan (OSP) Preliminary Design
. Flood Hazard Area Delineation (FHAD)

The overall project study area includes Kinney Creek (KC), Fonder Draw (FD), two unnamed washes, and the
adjacent areas as shown in Figure 1-1. For the purpose of this study, the two unnamed washes ,are referred to
as North Pinery Creek (NPC) and South Pinery Greek (SPC),

This report has been prepared to document the floodplain and f100dway delineations for the four major
drainageways (KC, FD,NPC, and SPC) located within the study limits, The project hydrologic analysis,
summarized herein, including pertinent Tables and Figures in Appendices A thru D, was previously submitted to
the project sponsors (Reference 11),

8, PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The scope of the FHAD study is as follows:

1, Gather and assemble available information on the existing drainage facilities and other applicable

hydrologic and hydraulic information,

2, Define water surface profiles for the 10-, 50-, 100-, and 500-year storm event floodplains and 0,5
foot rise and 1.0 foot rise f1oodways,

3. Prepare plan and profile drawings showing the limits of the 1 OO-yearfloodplain and the 10- and 100-
year flood profiles for the four major drainageways.

4, Document the study analyses and results in a written FHAD Report,

C,

MAPPING AND SURVEYS

Detailed topographic mapping for the study area was prepared by Map Works, Inc. under a separate
contract with UDFCD, The topography was compiled from aerial photographs taken in November 2002 and is
based on NA VD 1988 vertical datum and NAD 1983 horizontal datum, The 2-foot contour mapping was
provided to WRC in an electronic AutoCAD drawing format. The project mapping prOVided included additional
field survey information and photographs for bridges and culverts, The detailed project topographic information
covered areas adjacent to the major drainageways and was supplemented by a 2.foot contour mapping from
the UDFCD Cherry Creek Corridor FHAD project and a 5-foot contour topographic mapping provided by
Douglas County for other areas, Information regarding monuments established during the course of this study
can be obtained at www,udfcd,org.

Site observations were conducted by WRC Engineering, Inc, personnel to evaluate channel roughness
and other pertinent hydraulic conditions, Some reaches of the drainageways are located within private
properties and thus were not accessible for field observations, Other available information collected for this
study and aerial photographs were used to estimate existing hydraulic conditions for the inaccessible areas,

I-I
