<br />Floodplain Subdivisiop~ <br /> <br />The 100-year floodplain in this study has been subdivided into a flood- <br />way (high hazard) ar~a and a flood storage (low hazard) area. <br /> <br />The floodwayarea is the channel of a strcaT:laad those porttons of t he <br />floodplaiawhichare rcasonablyrE'qulrcd to carry and disch"-rge the flood- <br />waters of a lOa-year flood. The Hoodway area is characterized by high <br />velocities and deeper flow and poses significant hazard to life and prop- <br />erty. The Hoodway wne includes tho"" ar~as where the depth of flo<< eX- <br />c~eds one and one-half (1.5) feet. <br /> <br />The flood storage area includes that portion of the floodplain area that <br />may serve as a temporary storage area for floodwaters from the lOa-year <br />flood and includes those areas where the depth of the 100-ye'''' flood is <br />less than one and one-half (l.S) feet.
