<br />e <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />~.O LTEC DESIGN PROCEDURE <br /> <br />Table 3.1 illustrates the decisionmaking process and the remaining sections <br />of the manual contain detailed information on the various steps leading to the <br />selection on the LTEC design. <br /> <br />Section 4.0 provides guidance on the selection of alternative designs and <br />section 5.0 discuss~s limiting assumptions and other analysis considerations. <br />Data collection and tIle hydrologic and hydraul ic analysis, ~Ihich is central to <br />the entire LTEC procedure, is discussed in section 6.0. Sections 7.0 and 8.0 <br />provide details on the mechanics of computing the econol~ic losses and the total <br />expected cost (TEC) for each design alternative. Section 9.0 discusses the <br />selection of the least total expected cost (LTEC) design and section 10.0 <br />contains a sensitivity analysis procedure to aid the designer in determining <br />the relative significance of the variables in the decisionrnaking process. <br /> <br />The LTEC design procedure is conceptually rather sir~ple. Its application, <br />however, does involve the acquisition and manipulation of a sizeable data base <br />of infonllation. The designer shoul d have access to computer based techniques <br />for the hydrol ogi c and hydraul ic computat ion, but "hand" cal cul at ion are <br />recommended for the other computations until familiarity with the process is <br />gained. <br /> <br />7 <br />
