.

FOREWORD

Project REUSE (Renewing the Environment through Urban Systems Engineering)
is a cooperative program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments and
the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, financed in part by an Urban
Systems Engineering Demonstration Program grant from the Department of
Housing and Urban Development. The project includes solid waste management
and storm drainage and flood control, in an effort to identify and demon-
strate concurrent approaches to improve the management and control of the
two systems.

The major result of Project REUSE will be short and long range implementation
programs for drainage and flood control and solid waste management in the
urbanizing areas of the region. A planning and program development method-
ology, based on urban systems engineering concepts, is being used during
Project REUSE, and is expected to become the accepted methodology for
subsequent planning and program development.

.

This report, "Drainage Basin Descriptions," provides data and information
about 398 drainage subbasins ranging in area between 1000 and 3000 acres
each. The maps showing the subbasins are U.S.G.S. 7-1/2 minute Quadrangle
Sheets. Drainage data on the maps, and in the accompanying descriptive
material, was collected, analyzed and prepared during 1971. For the users
convenience, ten sections have been prepared, one for each of the ten
Planning Basins into which the 398 subbasins have been assembled for
planning purposes.

Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers developed the methodology and
prepared this report as the drainage consultant to Martin Marietta
Corporation. The latter firm is the prime consultant for overall contract
management and the solid waste related Project work.

The Project REUSE storm drainage and flood control report series includes
the following:

A. Urban Storm Drainage and Flood Control in the Denver Region --
Final Report
B. Supplemental Publications
1. Planning Manual for Storm Drainage and Flood Control
2. Storm Drainage and Flood Control Criteria
3. Master Plan for Major Drainage -- Henry's Lake Area
4. A Program for Storm Drainage and Flood Control -- 1972-1991
5. DRAINAGE BASIN DESCRIPTIONS
6. Rainfall/Runoff Information
7. Flood Management Plan
8. Management of Storm Drainage and Flood Control Activities
C. Feasibility of Combined Solid Waste and Storm Drainage Projects

.

iv
