"

"

~
\:'-'-

<

.

Monte Pascoe
July 21, 1982
Page two

Under the above authorities, and in response to local requests, we
have estimated the extent of flooding in the event of a dam failure in
a few instances. Due to lack of funding, however, we have never been
able to implement a program for methodically evaluating the flood
hazards associated with the failure of dams in Colorado. Obviously,
such a program would be highly desirable.

Funding Cutback

Our general fund appropriation for F.Y. 82-83 has been reduced by
$116,000, which represents about half of the budget for the Board's
floodplain management program. The $116,000 is to be recovered by
charging for some portion of the services we render.

I do not expect to be able to generate this much money. Thus, as
you will recall, I have already reduced the personnel allocated to the
Board's floodplain program by leaving a position in that program vacant.

BMcD:mm
