In general, the study area comprises
the flood plain of the Blue River only through the town of
Breckenridge. Peak discharges on the Blue River between
Goose Pasture Tarn and Dillon Reservoir are also tabulated.
Records indicate that two damaging floods have occurped in
pecent years. Both of these floods wepe in 1965, since then,
Goose Pastupe Tapn, a multi-purpose resepvoip involving
pecreation and municipal water, has provided a high degree of
incidental flood protection to the area downstream, but flood
damage out of the pesepvoir and fpom the tributapies of the
Blue River may still occuP.

I
f
I
!
1

; ,

Studies made for this report show that floods larger than
those in the past oould oooup in the futupe in the study apea.
This peport contains information on past floods and maps,
profiles and cposs sections that indicate the apppoximate
extent and depth of inundation fpom lapge floods that can
peasonably be expected to occuP in the futupe. Fop the pup-
pose of this pepopt these floods have been designated as the
Intepmediate Regional and the Standapd ppoject Floods.

This pepopt was ppepaped by Leonapd Rice Consulting Watep
Engineeps, Inc., of Denvep, Colopado at the pequest of the
town of Breckenpidge and in coopepation with the Colopado
Watep Consepvation Boapd. It is intended that the pepopt be used by the
town of Breckenridge, Summit County and othep concepned
entities in such a way that flood hazapd and futupe flood
damages ape minimized. The pepopt ppovides a basis fop fupthep
study and planning fop optimum use and development of flood-
ppone apeas thpough zoning and subdivision pegulations, con-
stpuction of flood contpol ppojects, op by a combination of
these op othep apppoaches to peduce the flood hazapds and

~ Leonard Rice Consutting Water Engineers, Inc.
