Specifically, we
would like for CWCS staff to review the FEMA maps entitled "Flood Insurance Rate Map,
City of Cortez, Colorado' dated April 1, 1977, for designation and approval at the CWCS's
Board meeting scheduled for March 1999.

The City's most current floodplain map is approximate in nature and may not
accurately reflect 100-year floodplain conditions; however, it is the only floodplain
information available to us at this time. We would like to have the CWCS and FEMA
consider assisting us with a revision or update to our regulatory floodplain mapping in the
future.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me in the Public
Works Department at 970-565-3402 or come by City Hall, 210 East Main Street, Monday
through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sincerely yours,

r3~~

Bruce Smart
Director of Public Works

r:\pwadmin\bruce\drafts\fema.doc

TELEPHONE 970-565,3402 FACSIMILE 970-565,8172
