Government Highline Canal, operated by the Bureau of Reclamation
. Price Ditch, operated by the Palisade Irrigation District
. Grand Valley Canal, Operated by the Grand Valley Irrigation Company

These ditches act as hydraulic baniers that impede or intercept the overland flow of water.
Portions of the Stub Ditch and the Price Ditch have been converted from open channels to pipes
in recent years, These ditches previously acted as drains for upstream flooding. The Bureau of
Reclamation's Salinity Project then constructed facilities on top of the pipes to capture and
reroute local drainage to Bosley Wash, the roughly north-south trending drainage ditch that
conveys stormwater from Stub Ditch within the Bosley Wash Basin,

Bosley Wash crosses the Government Highline Canal via a siphon and a number of small

diameter culvert crossings draining subbasins to the east. For the purposes of this report, it was

assumed that the Government Highline Canal intercepted no stormwater. However, reports

indicate that overtopping of the canal embankment may in fact occur,

2.3 Basin Storage

Drainage features within the Bosley Wash Watershed are incapable of handling large flood

events. There are also a number of hydraulic structures throughout the watershed, most notably

along 1-70, which are incapable of conveying all flood flows, but which significantly attenuate

peaks as a result of inadvertent and unregulated storage,

3. PRECIPITATION

Major flooding on the Bosley Wash Basin is the product of high intensity thunderstorms,
Rainfall amounts for the hydrologic simulations in this study were derived from the NOAA
Atlas,

"..~~

i~ '-~~~t~~~.IDr:;\,;~!-(,s:'-~

e ~

Page 4

lill

~~~,
{1~!'6_i.Dii;";\';-J
